Correction and Retraction
Policy Statement
MIMBAR TRIBAKTI: Journal of Islamic Studies and Education is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. Although all published articles undergo rigorous peer review and editorial evaluation, errors or ethical concerns may occasionally be identified after publication. In such circumstances, the journal applies clear, consistent, and transparent procedures for corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, article removal, and article replacement, in accordance with the guidelines and flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Article Correction
Article correction is issued when an article remains scientifically valid, but specific parts require amendment to prevent misunderstanding or misinformation. Corrections may be considered when:
· Minor errors result from honest mistakes and do not invalidate the overall findings.
· Errors appear in authorship attribution, affiliations, or acknowledgements.
· Clarifications are required to enhance the accuracy of the published record.
Types of corrections:
· Erratum (Publisher Correction): issued for errors introduced during the editorial or production process.
· Corrigendum (Author Correction): issued for errors made by the author(s).
Addendum: issued to provide additional explanations or updates relevant to the published work.
· The decision to issue a correction rests with the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Board.
Article Retraction
Retraction is considered when serious flaws or ethical violations invalidate the reliability of an article. An article may be retracted if:
· There is evidence of research misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or citation manipulation.
· The findings are unreliable due to major methodological or analytical errors.
· The article constitutes duplicate or redundant publication.
· There are serious ethical concerns, including inappropriate authorship or lack of ethical approval.
Article retraction notice will be issued and permanently linked to the original article to ensure transparency.
Expressions of Concern
An Expression of Concern may be issued when serious doubts arise regarding the integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is inconclusive or an investigation is ongoing. This measure serves to inform readers while further examination is conducted. Once the investigation is completed, the Expression of Concern may be followed by a correction, retraction, or confirmation of the article’s validity.
Article Removal
In exceptional circumstances, an article may be removed from the journal’s online platform. This action is taken only for legal reasons, such as defamation, copyright infringement, or court orders. In such cases, bibliographic information will remain available, accompanied by a notice explaining the reason for removal.
Article Replacement
If an article contains errors that could pose significant risks if acted upon, the author(s) may retract the original article and replace it with a corrected version. A retraction notice will link both versions and document the publication history transparently.
Post-Publication Discussion
The journal encourages constructive post-publication discussion to promote scholarly dialogue. Readers may submit comments, critiques, or responses through official channels. All post-publication communications are subject to editorial review to ensure academic relevance, professionalism, and respect.
Flow of Action
The general flow of post-publication actions is as follows:
1. Identification of an error or ethical concern by readers, authors, reviewers, or editors.
2. Preliminary assessment by the Editor-in-Chief.
3. Communication with the author(s) for clarification and response.
4. Investigation following COPE flowcharts.
5. Editorial decision (correction, expression of concern, retraction, removal, or replacement).
6. Publication of a formal notice linked to the original article.
7. Indexing and archiving updates to preserve the scholarly record.
Commitment to Academic Integrity
Through this policy, MIMBAR TRIBAKTI: Journal of Islamic Studies and Education reaffirms its commitment to ethical publishing, accountability, and the preservation of trust in academic research within Islamic studies and Islamic education.
